Does Bleach Kill Ants?
Bleach temporarily kills ants but is not effective for eliminating a long-term ant invasion. Other popular methods for killing ants, such as ammonia, window cleaner, hot water and pesticide sprays, also have limited impact.
Some ants are attracted to sweet foods and are successfully lured into baits containing boric acid. Sweet ant baits typically take up to two weeks to kill ants within a colony; however, bait traps are not effective on ant species that avoid sweet baits. For instance, Argentine ant infestations are common in California. These ants are highly resistant to all types of ant killers. Research into Argentine ant behavior found that ant invasions are connected to changes in weather conditions.
