What Are the Basic Rules of the Board Game “Clue”?
In the board game “Clue,” three cards in a confidential case file indicate the suspect who committed a murder, the murder weapon and the room where the murder took place. Players take turns moving their characters around the board, suggesting possible scenarios and making accusations when they think they know the murder scenario.
Each player controls one of six suspect characters. After putting a suspect, weapon and room card in the case file, the players divide the rest of the cards evenly among themselves.
On a player’s turn, he is able to move his character either by rolling the dice and moving that number of spaces or using one of the secret passageways between rooms. When the player is in a room, he can make a suggestion. To do so, he states his suggested suspect, murder weapon and room. He must state the room his character currently occupies.
After a suggestion, the player to the left shows the player who made the suggestion any card he has that disproves his suggestion. If he doesn’t have one, the next player to the left shows a card that disproves it. This process continues until either a player shows a card to the player that made the suggestion or no one has a card to show.
At any time on his turn, a player is able to make an accusation. He states a suspect, weapon, and room and then checks the case file. If he’s right, he wins; if not, he is out of the game and only participates by showing cards that disprove suggestions.
