NFL players are big in terms of both height and weight, with the average player height running 6 feet 4 inches. Players can be as tall as 6 feet 8 inches and as short as 6 feet. It’s unlikely for an NFL player to weigh less than 250 pounds.

According to SB Nation, players that are drafted today are bigger than they were in the 70s and 80s. For example, the average defensive tackle in 2013 weighed in at about 305 pounds, while a defensive player in the 70s weighed around 270 pounds.

Currently, the heaviest players in the NFL are nose tackles. The average male athlete, in most all sports activities, weighs in at 210 pounds and is about 6 feet, 1 inch tall.
