The average cost of a root canal ranges from $900 to $1,300, and the average cost of a dental crown ranges between $500 and $3,000, according to CostHelper. Root canal costs vary depending on which tooth is treated, and crown costs vary depending on the material used in the crown.

Root canals on molars are more expensive than those on bicuspids or front teeth. More difficult procedures are typically done by endodontists, who tend to charge more than dentists, as CostHelper explains. The least expensive crowns are porcelain-to-metal, followed by gold-alloy metal crowns and all-porcelain crowns. Dental insurance typically does not pay for crowns that are installed for cosmetic purposes.
