The city of Panipat is located in the northwest portion of India, within the state of Haryana. The main employers in the city are wool and cotton mills, saltpeter refineries, and manufacturing plants for glass, bricks and electrical appliances. The city is famous for three historical battles, called the Battles of Panipat, which took place on the plain of Panipat in the 16th and 18th centuries. In each of these battles, Mughal leaders defeated the forces that struggled against them for reign over India. However, India fell into anarchy after the third battle.
