- The main disadvantage is that the readings are highly dependent on the operators ability, and its accuracy is limited by the vernier scale.
- It can only be used to measure small objects.
A vernier caliper is used to accurately measure between points; it can determine measurements within .02 millimeters or .001 inches, depending on whether the vernier is metric or imperial.
