How Do You Access a Refrigerator Drain Tube?
Refrigerator drain tubes sometimes get clogged, resulting in water puddling in the bottom or front of the refrigerator. If clogged, the drain can be snaked or flushed with hot water. Accessing the drain tube requires removal of the vegetable drawers.
-
Unplug the refrigerator, and move it away from the wall
Pull the refrigerator away from the wall. Take care when moving the refrigerator. If the legs are not on rollers, acquire assistance to protect your back and the floor. Unplug the refrigerator from the outlet.
-
Remove the vegetable drawers, and access the drain pipe
Slide the vegetable drawers out of the refrigerator. The drain cover is generally located beneath the drawers. The drain pipe runs from here to the drain pan behind the refrigerator grill. Clean up any water on the bottom of the refrigerator with towels, and open the drain cover to access the drain pipe.
-
Complete maintenance
If the drain pipe is clogged, flush the line with a mixture of baking soda and hot water. More difficult clogs can be removed using a plumbing snake. Replace the drain cover when finished.
-
Replace the vegetable drawers, and restore power
Slide the vegetable drawers back into the refrigerator. Close the front door, and plug in the refrigerator to the wall outlet. Carefully slide the refrigerator back to its original position.
