The 60th birthday is considered one of the milestone or significant birthdays in a person’s life. Though there is no set color theme, classic colors are suggested as an appropriate theme. The colors suggested are black, white, gold and silver. Creating a black-and-white photo collage is suggested to emphasize the classic theme.

The 60th birthday is significant in many cultures. In the West, 60 is marked as the retirement age. It is the transition into the later stage of life. This age also marks the beginning of the golden years. This goes back to using a classic color like gold. These colors are very basic and simple and are representative of what the new stage in the person’s life will be. It is much like how the 16th, 18th and 21st birthdays are viewed.

In the Chinese culture, the 60th birthday represents the beginning of a new life cycle. Besides this birthday, only the first and 10th are important. This significance is based on the Chinese calendar. The calendar is based on 12 animal signs and the five basic elements: metal, fire, earth, water and wood. This results in a 60-year cycle. After the 60th birthday, the birthdays are only celebrated every 10 years.
