Is a 59 a Good ASVAB Score ?

A score of 59 on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is almost one standard deviation above the mean of 50. Whether it is a good score depends on the type of job the test taker hopes to get.

While the Air Force looks at a candidate’s overall ASVAB score, the other armed services focus on scores from different subtests to match a candidate with the appropriate job categories. In the Air Force, an ASVAB score of 59 is adequate to place a candidate in jobs such as aircraft loadmaster, airborne operations apprentice or air traffic control. The Army, Navy and Marines require combinations of specific subtest scores to determine possible job categories.
