What Is 2D Design?
Last Updated Mar 26, 2020 9:07:00 AM ET

2D design is the creation of flat or two-dimensional images for applications such as electrical engineering, mechanical drawings, architecture and video games. Blueprints are typically two-dimensional designs that give indications of height and length for construction purposes.
2D designs normally incorporate computer-aided drafting and individual drawing skills. CAD software helps designers create and visualize their concepts through renderings of the finished project. As changes are made to the design, these changes are seen in real time. CAD software allows for the creation of three-dimensional design that allows greater versatility with rendering, such as varying light sources and object rotation for viewing from various angles.
