Type the exponent behind the number or variable. Leave a space before and after the character that should be an exponent. Select the number you want to be an exponent.
Open the Home toolbar by clicking on the Home tab at the top of the screen.
Click the Superscript option, which is in the Font group of buttons on the Home toolbar. This makes the number appear as an exponent.
Find the character count of a document by clicking on the word count button on the status bar at the bottom of the page.
