What Is a Presentation Deck?
A series of slides used as a visual aid that coordinates with an oral presentation is known as a presentation deck. A presentation slide deck is a visual aid or collection of slides that is usually created on computer software, such as PowerPoint or Keynote. Words, images or both appear on each slide, and transitions are used to proceed to the next slide.
Usually a presentation deck includes a title page, which displays the presenter’s name and contact information. According to MaRS Discovery District, sales presentations usually include slides regarding the problem a company is solving, the solution and business model. The content on the slides is often animated to match the timing of the presenter’s speech, or the presenter clicks through each slide at the appropriate time. Software, such as Keynote and PowerPoint, offers additional features like graphs, sound effects and video insertions. Slides are adaptable to display content for multiple types of media.
In the late 1990s, slides with lists of bullet points were commonly referred to as presentation slides; however, current trends have moved presenters away from bullet points toward pictures that represent the content the presenter is discussing. Frequent presenters, such as the entrepreneur and investor Guy Kawasaki, often have tips on how to create an effective presentation slide deck.
