Change a Straight Talk phone number by calling Straight Talk’s customer service line. This change can be processed with a live representative or via the automated voice system, but it cannot be done online, as of 2015.
After calling the toll-free number, the automated service prompts for language selection. Press one to select English as the language. It provides a list of options for selection. First, press five as it is the option for services including technical support. The automated message again provides a list of options for caller selection depending on the particular area of support.
Press three to change the phone number as indicated by the automated message instructions. If calling from the home phone, contact 1-800-299-7784. Follow the automated message instructions. First select the language, and then press five to change the current Straight Talk phone number and obtain a new number depending on the local calling area.
The reactivation of the phone with a different ZIP code is possible only if Straight Talk offers service in the desired ZIP code. It is possible to transfer an existing telephone number from a different company to the Straight Talk phone. The existing telephone number that requires porting to the Straight Talk phone must be active with the current service provider.
Straight Talk allows up to four wireless number changes per year. To change a phone number’s area code, the entire phone number must be changed. New service with Straight Talk can be set up with a new phone number or with a phone number ported from another provider. Accounts that lapse for more than 30 days may lose their telephone number and require a phone number change upon re-activation.
Transferring an existing wireless phone number to Straight Talk takes between a few hours and seven days. Porting a land line telephone number to Straight Talk may take up to 30 days if there is a delay from the telephone company. Only active telephone numbers on accounts in good standing are eligible to be ported to Straight Talk.
Porting in an existing number can be done on the phone with a representative or on Straight Talk’s activation site. Activating a Straight Talk phone with a number from another carrier completes when the previous carrier deactivates service. The phone number cannot transfer and activate until the step is complete.
