Straight Talk allows up to four wireless number changes per year. To change a phone number's area code, the entire phone number must be changed. New service with Straight Talk can be set up with a new phone number or with a phone number ported from another provider. Accounts that lapse for more than 30 days may lose their telephone number and require a phone number change upon re-activation.

Transferring an existing wireless phone number to Straight Talk takes between a few hours and seven days. Porting a land line telephone number to Straight Talk may take up to 30 days if there is a delay from the telephone company. Only active telephone numbers on accounts in good standing are eligible to be ported to Straight Talk.

Porting in an existing number can be done on the phone with a representative or on Straight Talk's activation site. Activating a Straight Talk phone with a number from another carrier completes when the previous carrier deactivates service. The phone number cannot transfer and activate until the step is complete.
