What Is the Purpose of a Printer?
The purpose of a printer is to accept typed text and graphic images from a computer and transfer it to paper. Printers are sometimes sold along with computers, but consumers typically purchase them separately. Printers vary greatly in cost, speed, size and function.
The two most common types of printers are inkjet printers and laser printers. Inkjet models spray ink at a very close range from cartridges onto printing paper as it rolls by. Laser printers use laser beams to attract a special type of ink called toner. Once this attraction occurs, the toner, along with a rolling printing drum, create a mirror image of the document onto a sheet of paper. Multifunction printers are also quite common in office settings. These printers can carry out multiple functions, such as faxing, copying, scanning and even making phone calls.
Wireless printers are designed to work with wireless networks. All computers connected to the wireless network can use the printer, and these machines also eliminate the problem of cable clutter. There are also photography printers on the market, and these machines allow users to print the photographs stored on their computers onto glossy card stock or presized photo paper. The results of photo printing can be just as stunning as professional prints.
