The International Federation of Association Football, known by its French acronym FIFA, stipulates that for a professional 11- versus 11-man competition, the field must be between 100 to 130 yards long and 50 to 100 yards wide. Therefore, the square footage ranges from approximately 45,000 to 117,000 square feet.

FIFA gives an optimal size as between 110 to 120 yards long and 70 to 80 yards wide, making the square footage for FIFA’s optimal field between roughly 69,000 and 86,000 square feet. By comparison, a professional American football field has a width of 53.3 yards and a length of 120 yards, with a total square footage of 57,564 square feet.
