The standard amount of coffee put in a pot is two tablespoons of ground coffee per six ounces of water. For an average pot that makes 12 6-ounce cups, use approximately 24 tablespoons or 1.5 cups of ground coffee.

The exact number of scoops used depends on how much water the coffee pot holds and the size of the scoop. Most coffee pots come with a scoop that measures one tablespoon.

The amount of coffee needed for a pot can also vary depending on personal tastes. If strong coffee is desired, add 3 tablespoons of coffee per six ounces of water (36 tablespoons or a little over 2 cups per pot). For a little less bitter coffee, only use 1 tablespoon of ground coffee per six ounces of water (12 tablespoons or 3/4-cup per pot).
