What Sound Does a Monkey Make?

Monkeys make many different types of sounds when they communicate and can make noises that sound anything like a bark to a roar. The different sounds have different purposes, including warding off predators, social communications and mating.

One of the loudest monkeys is the aptly named howler monkey, which is known for its distinctive territorial call. Howler monkeys make the noise at the beginning and ending of the day to establish their territory. Howler monkeys are native to Central America and South America and are found almost exclusively in the treetops of the forest, getting the water from the food they eat.
