What Is the Slowest Dog Breed?
Although this is not scientifically proven, it is believed that some of the slowest dog breeds are the Basset Hound, Bulldog and Dachshund. This is because they are plump and have shorter legs than other dog breeds.
Other slow-moving dogs are the Old English Mastiff, St. Bernard, Sussex Spaniel and Clumber Spaniel.
Additionally, Bulldogs and Bullmastiffs are lazy by nature, as are the French Bulldog, Great Dane, Chow Chow and Pug.
Many slow-moving dogs are prone to back injuries, an affliction especially prevalent in long-backed, short-legged breeds, including the Basset Hound. Owners of such dogs should ensure they are in an environment in which negotiating stairs and jumping onto tall objects, such as couches or beds, are kept to a minimum.
