A short-haired Australian Shepherd is a type of dog breed characterized by a shorter, water-resistant and multicolored coat. Some short-haired Australian Shepherds may have light or multicolored eyes as well.
Short-haired Australian Shepherds may appear with several different colors including blue merle, red merle, black and tri-colored. They are known as herding dogs and are said to behave well when they receive plenty of exercise or are given jobs or projects to do. Despite the name, Australian Shepherds are native to the United States and not Australia. Australian Shepherds were bred to herd livestock during 1840 Gold Rush in the United States.
