Where Do Possums Live?

Possums live all across the United States, especially in the southeastern and mid-western parts of the country. They usually reside inside trees or logs.

There are numerous breeds of possums, but the Virginia possum, or common possum, is the breed found in the United States and Canada. They can be found in the Southeast, Northeast and Midwest regions of the country. Possums are also found in the Northwest. Because they do not tolerate hot, dry climates very well, they are rarely seen in arid climates.

Possums are natural scavengers and are often found digging through garbage cans or dumpsters and feasting on roadkill. Possums will hunt and kill mice, insects, snakes and birds. They will also eat fruits, nuts and grass.
