What Are Some Names of Famous Bears?

Smokey Bear, Paddington Bear, Yogi Bear and Gentle Ben are famous bears. They are all fictional, but Gentle Ben was portrayed by an actual bear named Bruno the Bear.

Smokey Bear, also called Smokey the Bear, is the mascot fpr the longest-running public service campaign in the United States since the 1940s. Paddington Bear, also known Paddington Brown, is a character from English children’s literature dating back to 1958. Yogi Bear is a Hanna-Barbera cartoon character also created in 1958. The Berenstain Bears,Teddy Ruxpin, Winnie-the-Pooh, Fozzie Bear, Baloo and Corduroy are all famous fictional bears. Some, like Teddy Ruxpin, Winnie-the-Pooh and Corduroy, are fictionalized teddy bears.

Gentle Ben, the bear from the eponymous children’s novel, was portrayed by a real bear named Bruno in a TV series from 1967 to 1969. Ben is also the name of the bear in “The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams,” which was a 1972 novella, a 1974 film and a TV series that ran from 1977 to 1982.

Aloysius is the teddy bear from “Brideshead Revisited,” the 1945 novel by Evelyn Waugh, subsequently made into films which also included the bear. More recently, Lots-O’-Huggin’ Bear is the pink teddy bear villain from the 2010 movie “Toy Story 3.” In 2012, the movie “Ted” starred a teddy bear named Ted.
