The weight range for an average American pit bull terrier varies greatly and can be between 25 and 85 pounds. Male pit bulls usually weigh between 35 and 65 pounds. Females are a little smaller, weighing in at between 30 and 60 pounds.

As with any breed, these weights are averages, and both lighter and heavier dogs of this breed have been reported. Most pit bulls grow to between 14 and 24 inches tall at the shoulder.

To keep a pit bull at a healthy weight, a diet consisting of a quality kibble is recommended. Quality kibble is one that has human-grade meat as the first ingredient and contains other things such as vitamins, vegetables and quality grains such as barley or rice.
