Crocodiles have between 60 and 72 teeth which they use to tear flesh apart. They do not chew their food, but instead swallow large portions of their prey.
Crocodiles sometimes swallow stones to help break down food they consume. Crocodiles are meat eaters and their prey consists of mammals, fish, birds and other reptiles. They have a slow metabolism and endure long periods of time without food.
Many species of crocodiles are at risk of extinction. They have been extensively hunted for their hides. Additionally, they are losing their natural habitats to human development. Climate changes are also impacting their habitats as saltwater continues to invade the wetlands.
