Ants have six legs. Each leg is made up of segments with two claws at the foot. The ant uses its claws to hook into surfaces so it can walk fast, climb quickly and dig effectively.
The ant has a very advanced sense of touch, due largely to its tactile or touch receptors. These tactile receptors are handily located on the ant’s feet and on the hairs found on the ant’s legs. The tactile receptors tell the ant more about the surface it is stepping on. Ants also use tactile signals to communicate with one another by stroking the bodies of other ants using their forelegs.
