One year in a goldfish’s life is equal to five human years, which means one-fifth of a fish year equals one human year. The average lifespan of the common goldfish is 15 years, while exotic goldfish species may live for only eight to 10 years.
According to Daily Mail Online, a UK publication, the oldest goldfish recorded lived to be 43 years old, which would be 215 in human years. It was a comet goldfish named Tish, owned by a woman in North Yorkshire. Tish was won at a fair and earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1998.
