What Is a Male Hawk Called?

A male hawk is called a tercel, which comes from the German word “terzel,” meaning “one-third.” The name was assigned to the hawk because the male is that much smaller than a female hawk.

A female hawk is called a falcon. Offspring are chicks, and a group is a cast. Falcons, as birds of prey, prefer to nest on cliffs in mountain areas of North America and Europe. However, with indigenous terrain being crowded out, falcons also nest atop high-rise office buildings in busy cities. According to Extreme Science, peregrine falcons are considered one of the fastest birds in the world, whose flight has been clocked between 40 to 55 miles per hour.
