How Long Do Miniature Dachshunds Live?
Last Updated Apr 16, 2020 12:58:06 AM ET

The average lifespan of a miniature dachshund is 12 to 14 years. One of the primary health concerns in this breed is obesity, which can lead to intervertebral disc disease.
Other more minor health issues in miniature dachshunds include KCS, diabetes, deafness, patellar luxation, epilepsy and gastric torsion. Regular exercise and proper nutrition help prevent obesity, and routine veterinary care can help the mini dachshund stay healthy.
Compared to other breeds, the mini dachshunds’ exercise needs are minimal and can be met with moderate walks or yard play. However, the dachshund is very energetic, curious, adventurous and a hunter at heart, that enjoys activity and time outdoors.
