How Long Do Bald Eagles Live?

Bald eagles live approximately 20 to 30 years in the wild and can survive even longer in captivity. As apex predators, they have no predators aside from man. Wild bald eagles are vulnerable to human-made chemical pollutants, which are responsible for reducing their average lifespan and overall population.
The bald eagle is a large bird of prey with a wingspan typically between 6 and 7.5 feet. The bald eagle’s range covers most of Canada and extends throughout the United States and into northern Mexico. A wide variety of fish compose the bulk of the bald eagle’s diet, even for populations that live in relatively arid climates. A versatile feeder, the bald eagle occasionally preys upon small mammals, water birds and reptiles.
