As a general observation, all types of fish found in salty oceans have iodine. This is from the fact that the largest amount of iodine is found in the oceans.
However, fish like the tinned salmon and shell fish have proven to have some high amounts of the essential mineral. This is as a result of the environment in which they are in and the foods they consume which is sea weeds or elevated from the food chain. At the same time, the fresh water fish such as trout also have iodine though it is in most times in lower concentrations compared to those of sea fish.
Though iodine naturally occur in the majority of the foods, fish and generally sea foods are rich in this essential mineral more than any other type of foods. However, not all types of fish have this element and thus it is important to understand and identify those that do.
Since iodine is an essential part of the diet for the normal functioning of the body, it is important to know the types of foods that it is found in. Due to its importance, it is also added to table salt to make sure that it is available to all those that need it.
