How Fast Can a Mustang Horse Run?

The fastest gallop was recorded at 88 kilometers per hour. Mustang running speeds are comparable with other horse breeds, as they fall in the middle-sized breeds. The average mustang measures between 14 and 15 hands.

The mustang breed descends from Spanish horses, brought to the Americas in the 1500’s. Since that time, mustangs have bred with draft, French, and quarter horse breeds, which has altered their build over the generations.

Mustangs are considered feral, because they are escaped domestic animals rather than innately wild. The breed is a particular favorite among Native Americans and old pioneers because they have excellent stamina which is ideal for long journeys.
