Why Do Dogs Smell Even After Having a Bath?

Dogs can smell even after a bath due to oils on their skin turning rancid. The drying effect of certain shampoos can contribute to allergies and inflamed skin, causing it to secrete even more unpleasant-smelling oils.

Using a conditioner after bathing a dog can help improve its skin condition, reducing the risk of oil overproduction. Bad odors after bathing may also be caused by an infection, so a complete veterinary examination needs to be performed and a treatment plan implemented if necessary. Omega-3 fatty acid supplements can help restore optimal skin condition and minimize odor; however, they should only be administered under the supervision of a veterinarian. These supplements have anticoagulant properties and may cause abnormal bleeding.
