Which Dog Breed Has Green Eyes?

Some mixed breeds of dogs can acquire green eyes by genetic variation, but pit bulls are the only American dog breed that may consistently have green eyes. Pit bulls are often referred to as a single type of dog, but they actually include five subtypes of dogs. Among the five types of pit bulls, two breeds are the most common: the American Pit Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier.

The different types of pit bulls vary in physical characteristics, but some have more traits in common with some than others. The American Pit Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier have the most traits in common; they have large heads and distinct body types, which are short, compact, muscular and lean. Pit bulls of all species are considerably stronger than most dogs their size. These dogs have flat, square heads and large muscles.

Although they have characteristic body shapes and profiles, pit bulls vary in other physical characteristics like eye color. Pit bulls can have green eyes as well as blue, hazel or brown eyes. Pit bulls also have short, shiny fur coats that vary in color, and may be white, blue, black, silver, tan, red or brown. Additionally, pit bulls can have combinations of those coat and eye colors.
