The dog that was cast to play Annie's dog Sandy in the 2014 film was adopted from a shelter in New York, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). The film shows Annie and her adoptive father, Daddy Warbucks, adopting Sandy from a shelter, mirroring the way in which Daddy Warbucks rescued Annie from an orphanage.
