A fully grown Chihuahua typically weighs 4 to 6 pounds. Reputable breeders emphasize that a special breed of Chihuahuas known as teacups does not exist.
The term “teacup” is a breeder invention designed to market dogs and make them seem more appealing. Although the growth of dogs that are marketed as teacup Chihuahuas may be stunted through strict diets when they are young puppies, there is no guarantee that teacup Chihuahuas do not grow to be equal in size and weight to other Chihuahuas as adults. However, Chihuahuas as a breed are classified as miniature dogs. So virtually every type of Chihuahua remains very small relative to the size of other breeds.
