The largest lion ever recorded was an African lion that weighed over 800 pounds. African lions grow larger than the Asiatic species and the longest African lion ever recorded was 11 feet long from nose to tail.

Typically, African lions weigh from 330 to 500 pounds with females being smaller than males. Asiatic, or Asian lions, are somewhat smaller, weighing from 350 to 420 pounds. By comparison, the largest Asian lion ever recorded measured around 9.5 feet from nose to tail.

It is interesting to note that female African lions are generally the same size as male Asiatic lions and the average weight of an African species is 410 pounds.
