How Long Does Asphalt Take to Dry?

It takes new asphalt 1 to 3 days to dry enough for foot and vehicle traffic. Resurfaced asphalt typically takes 2 to 6 hours. In general, the higher the outside temperature, the longer it takes for asphalt to dry.

Although asphalt dries within days, it takes up to a year for it to cure. For this reason, professionals recommend that people avoid traffic in the same spot of asphalt for several months. Those who park on new asphalt should not park in the same spot every day. If asphalt softens too much in hot temperatures, spraying it with water can cool it down to a point that it rehardens. Asphalt should be resealed every 2 to 3 years.
