What Are the Most Common Problems With Maytag Dryers?
Some of the most common problems with Maytag dryers include a failure to heat, failure to turn and failure to start. Noise is also a common complaint among owners of Maytag dryers.
The thermal fuse, heating element or dryer igniter may require replacement if the dryer suddenly stops heating properly. Failure to start may be remedied by checking the outlet and breaker connected to the machine or replacing the door or start switch. In some cases, the problem may require replacing the drive motor or drive belt if the machine doesn’t start.
If the dryer stops spinning during the middle of the heating cycle, the issue may be caused by a malfunctioning dryness control board. If the dryness control board works properly, replacing the drum rollers, drum bearing or drive motor is typically recommended and is often the solution to repairing a Maytag dryer that doesn’t turn at the beginning of the cycle.
Noisy operation is a common problem with Maytag dryers. Open the dryer, and check for loose items that may have fallen from the pockets of clothing before investigating other causes. If the cause isn’t a loose item, the problem may be the drum supports. When the drum supports wear out, the result is a loud rumble. A high-pitched whining noise may be caused by a malfunctioning belt, while grinding sounds may be caused by items becoming lodged in the lint trap or blower wheel of the dryer.
