Track certified mail from the U.S. Postal Service by using tracking tools on the USPS website. You need the tracking number for the package in order to use this service. Alternatively, send a text message to 28777 with your tracking number to receive updates as your mail travels.

  1. Find your USPS tracking number

Locate the USPS tracking number for your certified mail. This is typically located on the green certified mail receipt given to you at the post office.

  2. Navigate to the USPS website

Navigate to the USPS website and click on Quick Tools. Continue to step 3.

  3. Track your mail

Enter the tracking number from your certified mail receipt. Press enter to track your mail.

  4. Track the package via text service

You may also track your package via text. Send a text to 28777 with your tracking number. This activates a tracking service that sends updates to your phone each time the certified mail is scanned into or out of a location.
