What Does “TAA Compliant” Mean?
When a product is labeled “TAA compliant,” it means the item was made under guidelines set out in the Trade Agreements Act. Manufacturers who wish to contract with the government or an entity acting on its behalf must certify that their items are TAA compliant.
The Trade Agreements Act (19 U.S.C. & 2501-2581) implemented numerous international trade agreements intended to promote fair and open trade. It requires that articles bought by the government for public use must be made or substantially transformed in the United States or in free-trade friendly countries. When components originate in multiple countries, substantial transformation involves creating or assembling an object that is new and different than its component parts, according to the U.S. Government Services Administration.
