The United States Postal Service allows companies to identify individuals or offices with a private mailbox, or PMB, address to simplify internal mail distribution. Commercial mail receiving agencies (CMRA), such as UPS, offer this as a service to individuals or businesses. PMBs are sometimes also called personal mailboxes.
PMB addresses allow small businesses to have a professional-looking street address, have someone available during regular delivery hours to sign for letters or packages, pick up the mail at convenient hours, and retain privacy, which can be important for the owners of home-based businesses. A PMB address can be rented as needed through a CMRA, which may be more cost-effective than renting a box at the post office.
