What Is a Nurses' Hotline Number?
Last Updated Apr 12, 2020 6:44:55 AM ET

A nurses' hotline number is a service offered by some health-care providers. It is a phone number that is staffed 24 hours a day by a nurse. The nurse answers medical questions and provides advice on what type of health care to seek.
The nurse also helps callers understand a recent diagnosis or medical test result or to prepare for a doctor's appointment. The nurse may also provide general medical information. Some nurses' hotlines provide information about a particular health-care system, assist callers in selecting a physician or clinic to visit, provide directions to the clinic, and assist in special needs, such as arranging for a translator to be present during an appointment.
