How Much Is a Doubloon Worth?

While most genuine Spanish doubloons are museum pieces, each one was minted as a 7-gram piece of gold, which at today’s rates would sell for about $289. However, various dealers offer pieces from a wide range of dates at prices ranging from $2,500 to $4,500.
The actual value is difficult to nail down in terms of its historical value and its speculative value to collectors. Buyers should be wary of anyone claiming to be selling the genuine article for low prices. Ornamental pieces can be found that are made from lower-quality gold, or simply gold plated, for under $100, but if the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
