What Are the McDonald’s Characters’ Names?

The main McDonald’s characters include Ronald McDonald, Grimace, Hamburglar, Birdie the Early Bird and the Fry Kids. Other prominent characters in the past included Mayor McCheese, Officer Big Mac, The Professor, Captain Crook and Sundae. The characters were used as part of advertising and marketing for McDonald’s from the 1970s through the 1990s. With the exception of Ronald McDonald, all the other characters were gradually phased out of use.

Ronald McDonald is the main mascot of McDonald’s. Created in 1963, Ronald McDonald is portrayed as a clown with bright red hair, red lips, red clown shoes and a bright yellow jumpsuit with red and white striped sleeves. He appears often in advertisements interacting with children. The other characters associated with McDonald’s were part of the fictional McDonaldland world, used for various marketing purposes in the past. They were also featured in the playgrounds in many McDonald’s restaurants.

Grimace was a friendly purple monster portrayed as clumsy but well-meaning. The Hamburglar was a masked trickster who loved hamburgers. Birdie the Early Bird was a bright yellow bird in a pink jumpsuit who wore flight goggles on her head and Mayor McCheese had a giant hamburger head and wore a mayor sash over a fancy suit. Officer Big Mac had a giant Big Mac head and wore a police outfit and hat. The Professor was an eccentric inventor who wore a helmet with a light bulb on top. Captain Crook was a pirate who was always trying to steal Filet-o-Fish sandwiches and Sundae was Ronald McDonald’s pessimistic dog.
