How Many Video Games Are Sold Each Year?
According to data from the NPD Group, the amount of video game software sold in 2012 reached $6.7 billion, or 174.8 million units. This statistic does not take into consideration the amount of revenue generated by computer games which accounted for a revenue of $380 million and 13.2 million units sold.
In addition to the amount of people purchasing video games increasing, other forms of video game entertainment, such as digital download add-on packages, social networking games found on Facebook and mobile apps, also have a strong market presence. The public’s appetite for gaming has increased exponentially since 1996 when the industry only raked in $2.6 billion. Along with new video game hardware options, many predict the industry to be worth over $93 billion in total.
