What Is a Letter of Affirmation?
Last Updated Apr 11, 2020 4:11:39 PM ET

A letter of affirmation is a letter that either affirms that something is true for legal or confirmation purposes or a letter to oneself or another to affirm positive feelings and well-being. These letters of affirmation are important tools in the promotion of self-improvement and emotional healing.
A self-help affirmation letter requires that the writer detail to himself all of the positive attributes he has and how they are important in his life.
The IRS regularly requests letters of affirmation when establishing the tax exempt status of organizations. These documents offer a declaration of truth instead of needing the writer to present himself and swear under oath.
