What Is Interoffice Communication?

Interoffice communication is a form of communication that occurs among staff members within the same office. Interoffice communication is integral to the efficiency and operations of an office. Methods of interoffice communication include email, intranet, instant messaging and mail courier.

Well-maintained communication among disparate staff members or departments that share an office space can be challenging due to the size of the office, communication logistics and time restrictions. Traditionally, interoffice mail occurred through a mail courier who was responsible for physically delivering communications from one area of the office to another. In recent years, however, technology has promoted more direct, efficient means of interoffice communication. Email is a common feature in the modern workplace. Additionally, many companies utilize an intranet, a private extension of the Internet that is only accessible by members of the office staff, or encourage co-workers to communicate through instant messaging software.
