Hospital ancillary services are those supplemental or auxiliary services that are provided to patients in order to support the diagnosis and treatment of conditions. These include home health services, diagnostic services, occupational therapy and physical therapy.

Ancillary services are divided into three categories: diagnostic, custodial and therapeutic. Diagnostic hospital ancillary services may be provided in the hospital in the case of radiology, audiology, clinical lab services and pulmonary testing services. Custodial services include hospice, nursing home and home health ancillary services. Therapeutic services include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, radiation therapy, nutrition and weight management. Many physicians provide in-office ancillary services.
