Gross insubordination is the refusal of employees to take direction or listen to the instructions of their superiors. Gross insubordination is a workplace offense that may warrant punishment in varying degrees, including dismissal from a company. Gross insubordination is the failure to abide by a law or regulation established in a company, and may or may not warrant reprimand.
Employees may violate laws consciously or unconsciously while at work. Given the circumstances, their illegal actions may or may not be justifiable. Gross misconduct is the failure to abide by a reasonable regulation or request, and may be preceded by prior warnings.
