The name “Costco” doesn’t stand for anything, though for several years a rumor has been spread online that says it stands for “China Off Shore Trading Company.” That rumor has been debunked several times.
Despite the rumor that has been circulating online, Costco doesn’t stand for anything and the company is not owned by any Chinese corporations. Like most retailers, it does sell items made in China. Founded in 1976, Costco is a membership warehouse club where customers can purchase everyday items in bulk for a discounted price. The company is still owned and operated by Americans, and it is based in the state of Washington.
