What Is the Commercial Sector?

Commercial sector jobs are those that do not include farming, transportation, manufacturing or business. Some examples include restaurants and hotels, healthcare facilities and educational institutions.

In the United States, buildings in the commercial sector use about 19 percent of the energy in the country. Retail facilities, educational institutions, hotel and other lodging buildings, healthcare facilities and office buildings use the majority of this energy. The majority of this energy is used to light up the buildings and provide them with heat. Making the buildings more efficient can help owners and managers save money on both heating and electricity if they can make the changes.
